Cate Moorhead

My core profession is that of Occupational Therapy and I have worked in various mental health settings since 1996. I became a BABCP accredited cognitive behavioural therapist in 2001 and have since worked in mental health services for older adults, rehabilitation services, community mental health, crisis mental health care, forensic personality disorder services, in-patient acute services and, since 2007, at a tertiary care psychological therapies service. As a therapist I specialise in providing interventions for patients with complex PTSD, other trauma-related conditions that involve emotion regulation difficulties and/or dissociative experiences. I completed EMDR training in 2013 to support the delivery of trauma informed individual therapy.

I began my training in mindfulness teaching in 2004, providing MBCT group and individual interventions for patients with complex mental health difficulties who often have a history of complex trauma. I began a Master’s programme in Mindfulness-based Approaches at Bangor University in 2017 wishing to further my understanding of the application of mindfulness to the treatment of trauma-related conditions.

Supervision Experience

I have provided mindfulness-based supervision to clinicians and mindfulness practitioners from a range of clinical settings (including IAPT, community mental health, inpatient psychiatric care, personality disorder services and prison-based services). I completed the Mindfulness Network’s (MN) 3-day supervision course with Alison Evans in 2020 and more recently I have begun to supervise NHS trainee mindfulness teachers. My intention as both supervisor and teacher is to provide a safe place that enables learning and growth through a compassionate and respectful approach to supervisee’s experience of personal practice and teaching.

Personal Practice

Personal practice plays an important role in my life. I was introduced to mindfulness practice 17 years ago to support my teaching of mindfulness, however, over the years particularly through times of personal challenge, I have increasingly found practice a source of support, steadiness and self-compassion.
