Anna Dóra Frostadóttir

Ég veiti aðeins handleiðslu á íslensku (I supervise only in Icelandic).

I am currently the Executive Director for the Mindfulness Centre in Reykjavík, Iceland (Núvitundarsetrið) with a specific focus on implementing mindfulness into all sectors of the society, particularly into the school system. I co-lead a large-scale research project exploring the effectiveness of implementing mindfulness into the school system in collaboration with the Directorate of Health in Iceland and the University of Iceland. I hold lectures and teach mindfulness at the University of Iceland. Prior to my work at the Mindfulness Centre, I worked as a Clinical Psychologist in CMHT in Reykjavík and in EPMHT in St Albans, UK.

I feel privileged to be working as a mindfulness teacher and to have the chance to support others to incorporate mindfulness into their lives. I have mostly worked with people in clinical settings, workplace settings, education settings and with the general public. My passion is to implement mindfulness into the school system in line with my vision of how the world could be with mindful and compassionate people living in it.

The Mindfulness Centre (Núvitundarsetrid) has now commissioned the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice (CMRP) training through the Mindfulness Network and has started to offer a full Teacher Training Pathway in Iceland. I am a fully registered mentor and supervisor for Icelandic trainees who are on this training pathway.

Personal Practice

I have practised mindfulness since 2005 when I learnt about it through Dialectical Behaviour Therapy while working as a clinical psychologist in a psychiatric ward at the National Hospital in Iceland. Since then, I have been inspired to train in mindfulness, as a teacher, a supervisor and a trainer. I started out by wanting to become more mindful when I became a mother for the first time. I believe my mindfulness practices have really supported me in the role as a mother but never could have fathomed how much more I gained, personally and professionally. My mindfulness practices have helped me to stay connected to myself and have supported me during all the good times as well as the difficult times. They have really enabled me to be there for myself and others, and to show compassion when needed.
